Classic, young Prum leesiness. Flavors are spicy with depth and purity. Very versatile and pairs well with different dishes including seafood, poultry, and Asian cuisine. Jancis Robinson Outer quote mark Tenser and tighter than the 2020 Graacher Himmelreich. But very mellifluous and composed. Clean and crystalline. Flowers and stones. Real grip. Inner quote mark (9/2021) Description JJ Prüm is perhaps one of the most iconic producers in the Mosel, likely due to both their easily-recognisable label as well as their presence in a number of the best sites in the region. While many domaines boast centuries of production, JJ Prüm was set up in 1911 when Sebastian Alois Prüm inherited the vineyards that formed the basis of what his son Sebastian and later grandson Manfred would build into this world-class winery. These are wines likely to be found on the best wine lists around the world, and often much older vintages given that they are bottled later than most, and age with the very, very best. The Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is seldom one that reveals all of its charms early on in its evolution. The Sonnenuhr hides many of its layers of complexity for the patient who give the wines proper bottle age... but given how uncharacteristically expressive the wine is right out of the blocks on the nose, I can only imagine what lies ahead! The gorgeous bouquet offers up scents of apple, pear, fresh lime, honeycomb, vanilla bean, slate minerality, a touch of wild yeast, lavender and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, precise and pure, with a medium-full and filigreed personality, persistently salty and finely grippy. A superb core, with a cornucopia of yellow fruit, from peach through mirabelle to Amalfi lemon. Succulent and very elegant with a very precise balance of lively acidity and discreet sweetness. Caresses the palate through the long, almost dry and very stony finish. This has true Sonnenuhr reserve on the palate and will want some extended bottle age, but it is going to be magical juice! Spatlese wines are great paired with roasted pork loin with apples, grilled halibut, and mildly-spiced Asian dishes like pad thai. Off-dry styles of Spatlese Riesling can stand up to a mild level of spice, making them excellent candidates for mild Indian and Thai curries.
