Winemaker Notes Very pale yellow, let’s call it, "Prüm yellow". Touch of stone fruit, some elder there. Pristine expression of fruit. Immediately showing great balance of sweetness and acidity, a bit creamier than the Kabinett, lovely stone fruit, very elegant with that kick from the well known Graacher acidity. Good length with a bright and mouthwatering finish. For centuries the Prüm family has called the village of Wehlen home. The 33.5 acre estate consists of nearly 70% ungrafted vines. Holdings are in the best parts of the top Middle-Mosel sites: Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Zeltinger Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich, Graacher Domprobst, Bernkasteler Lay, Bernkasteler Badstube, and Bernkasteler Bratenhöfchen. Average annual production is 13,000 cases. The harvest at J.J. Prüm is always extremely late, and the wines are very long-lived. David Schildknecht writes: "I realize that the Prüms consider it heresy to drink their wines young, and I recognize from long experience how much they benefit from time in bottle. Nevertheless, to award scores well into the 90s for wines that I found hard to leave behind in the glass and then to suggest that one shouldn’t enjoy them already (after all, I certainly did!) strikes me as incongruous, if not downright ludicrous."
